Researchers at Berstein took into account the wide swath of tactics Europe’s luxury groups are deploying, from contributing to the restoration of artistic landmarks and sponsoring art museums to high-profile collaborations with famous artists and architects. “Luxury brands need to associate themselves with global aspirations and ideals in order to ignite desire,” said the report, issued Wednesday. “Doing this in a de-globalizing world is tricky. Hence, the need to find naturally global realms — like the arts and the sports.” Megabrands are best positioned to capitalize on the associations, given their financial might, rich heritage and capabilities to monetize enhanced branding, according to Bernstein. The report includes some staggering figures, including an estimated 800-million-euro investment for the Frank Gehry designed Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris, and the 25 million euros Tod’s ponied up for the restoration of the Coliseum in Rome. MAZE/Art Awards F.P.Journe F.P.Journe presents the first MAZE/Art Awards F.P.Journe, recognising Brazilian artist Victor Fidelis for the work “No limit do privado” (2025, Verve Gallery, São Paulo), during MIRA in Paris. Within the MAZE constellation, MIRA is an intimate art fair dedicated to the contemporary Latin American scene, whose second edition was held at the Maison de l’Amérique latine. This award marks a new milestone in F.P.Journe’s commitment to artistic creation. For more than a decade, F.P.Journe has supported artists and museum institutions through prizes that have enabled the acquisition of works for the collections of the MAMCO, the Fonds Municipal d’Art Contemporain de Genève and the Nouveau Musée National de Monaco. F.P.Journe continues this approach beyond traditional fair formats through its partnership with MAZE. Founded in 2024 by Thomas Hug, MAZE brings together a series of international fairs dedicated to art, design and visual culture. Among them are MAZE Art Gstaad, MAZE Art St Moritz, Particolare Vienna, MIRA Paris, Loop Barcelona and MAZE Design Basel. Each fair focuses on encounters between galleries, artists and collectors in an intimate environment. Together, they form a platform that champions the diversity of approaches and the uniqueness of each location. For this first edition, the jury was composed of Patricia Marshall (Fundación Jumex, Mexico) and Matthias Pfaller (Curator at the Centre Pompidou), whose background and experience reflect both the international scope of the award and the curatorial standards of the project. They highlighted the clarity of Victor Fidelis’s visual language and the emotional intelligence of his narrative. In “No limit do privado”, an ordinary pause becomes a space of meaning, where family, belonging, and identity intersect with the architecture that shelters them. The values of the Manufacture – Authenticity, Rarity and Talent, brought together in the acronym A.R.T., express the close ties between F.P.Journe and art, as well as its commitment to contemporary creation. Through “Remember the Future”, Nicolas Panayotou extends a line of thought initiated on the wall of Paris’ 13th arrondissement, where his namesake kinetic mural engages in a dialogue with the urban environment. The gallery exhibition becomes an inner resonance of this monumental work, unfolding a universe where geometric abstraction, illusion of movement, and the memory of forms intertwine. Trained at the École du Louvre and later at the Sorbonne, Panayotou is a French-Greek artist whose journey intersects art history with the energy of graffiti. Influenced by Vasarely, Soto, Agam, and Rondinone, he has spent over twenty years exploring the boundaries between painting, optical art, and digital language. His signature technique — the “digital hand” — counters the coldness of pixels with a meticulous, fully hand-crafted gesture, creating hypnotic kaleidoscopic spaces. Panayotou is part of the kinetic art movement, and his painting seeks to capture the viewer’s eye by inducing perpetual motion within the stillness of the frame. He plays with repeating stripes, subtle gradients, and prismatic structures to generate luminous illusions: levitating spheres, vibrating grids, radiating beams… The effect is visual, but also mental — a dive into a floating dimension where matter seems to fade in favor of pure energy. The series on view — Cosmic Clock, Pinacotheca, Boogie-Woogie — successively revisit the celestial sphere, ancient geometry, and the modern city. Suspended planets defying gravity, Egyptian pyramids seen from above and recomposed into segmented square patterns, and chromatic tributes to Mondrian all express a desire to forge a link between past and future, between the archaeology of forms and the pulse of the contemporary. Remember the Future is a temporal and optical journey. Each canvas acts like a capsule: painting in the box, Pinacotheca in the digital age. While the gallery remains a place of grounding, the screen also becomes an exhibition space. Panayotou does not merely represent movement — he embodies it in the very nature of his process, between material and immaterial, tangible and virtual. In an era marked by technological acceleration, his work reminds us of the artist’s primary role: to anticipate, transmit, translate. Like a contemporary Pythia, he paints the future with the hands of the past. The exhibition "Remember the Future" extends the monumental mural created by Nicolas Panayotou in the 13th arrondissement of Paris. This enigmatic title evokes the link between memory, perception, and projection: an invitation to look towards the future through the forms of the past. "Remember the future" is a visual journey: from the tangible to the digital, from the past to tomorrow. A space where painting, light and illusion meet. Sourced from family albums, online finds, and market discoveries, these images are reimagined through Friend’s artistic vision. The series, titled “Dare alla Luce”—Italian for “to bring to the light”—embodies a dual meaning of illumination and birth.
By introducing delicate perforations and backlighting, Friend transforms these historical moments into ethereal scenes where figures and landscapes are adorned with luminous patterns, evoking a sense of magic and nostalgia. This interplay of light and shadow invites viewers to reflect on the transient nature of time, memory, and existence. Firelight is presented in a meticulously crafted volume, featuring laser-cut paper and French binding, all encased in a clothbound box. This edition is a testament to the fusion of past and present, art and artifact. Curated by Laura Serani and designed by Gianni Giulianelli, Firelight is both a meditation on transience and a luminous dialogue between past and present. This work began through conversations with my Nonna as we looked through old family albums, where fading memories revealed how photographs retain meaning even when their stories are incomplete. I began collecting vernacular images and, through hand-piercing the photographs to let light pass through, transformed each into something both material and immaterial. In doing so, I also consider the original photographer’s gesture, their light of that moment, as part of an ongoing dialogue about time, memory, and photography itself. The titles, whether from the image’s provenance or imagined, invite reflection on the boundaries between truth and invention, the instability of memory, and the overwhelming circulation of images in contemporary life- AF E Book HERE Photo selection © 2025 Amy Friend Photography: Amy Friend Curated by: Laura Serani Design: Gianni Giulianelli Publisher: L’Artiere Edizioni Launch date: September, 2025 |
