Louis Vuitton debuts Fine Jewellery for Men and announces BamBam as House Ambassador

2/4/2024

Picture
A unique and modern character with a verve for life and learning, Gaston-Louis Vuitton steps into the spotlight to inspire the new Louis Vuitton fine jewelry collection: Les Gastons Vuitton. He was a creator, a collector, and had a curious mind. His wit, charm and eye for invention brought to life playful designs and original ideas: typography, monograms, books, art, travel, trunks, as well as games and toys were just a few of his passions - there were many more. The erudite thinker has paved the way for a collection that explores his multi-faceted personality and celebrates the individual. Innovation in techniques, material and moving mechanisms represent his modernity and freedom. Gaston was born at a time of great change and invention, something he understood – and certainly embraced.

This collection comes just days before Louis Vuitton announces BamBam as House Ambassador. Louis Vuitton fine jewelry is known for its forward-facing approach, the ability to be a little bit different, refined. In designing the collection, Francesca Amfitheatrof, Artistic Director for Watches and Jewelry at Louis Vuitton, found Gaston-Louis Vuitton to have much in common with men and women of today, both sensitive and open to the world around them. Explored in three chapters through 16 pieces and 2 masterpieces, rings, pendants, necklaces, tags, gourmettes, bracelets and earrings incorporate the Monogram and trunk stories, in contemporary new ways. Laser cutting technology brings extreme precision to the Monogram, applied here to fresh and contemporary effect. While the Maison’s signature trunk motif becomes its smallest version yet in reconceived forms that combine silver and diamonds. Materials include yellow gold and white gold, with the debut of titanium. The unique metal defines the collection and enables the introduction of Les Gastons Vuitton Blue titanium, a deep shade inspired by denim. Les Gastons Vuitton is the denim of jewelry, effortlessly elegant, versatile, rather like Gaston himself. “After all, we all have a bit of Gaston in us!”

he creators Gaston was known to fill many a notebook, or piece of tracing paper, with his sketches and ideas, of which he had many. They included designs for the captivating Louis Vuitton window displays, which would often be updated. He was an enthusiastic designer and maker, inventor and innovator, regularly registering for patents and copyrighting inventions and trade names. All of this comes to light in a mechanical ring and a technically crafted designer pendant, which become interactive jewelry pieces that tap directly into his inventor streak and prolific sketching habits. The pieces show a playful side of the Maison and invite endless reinvention. Key to these pieces are laser-cut, precise titanium designs; functionality and interactivity, and the striking titanium blue, Les Gastons Vuitton Blue.

The Collectors Gaston was a serious collector. He kept everything from cocktail party invites to vintage hotel labels; as well as art and books, examples of typography and trunks – so the story goes, he owned at least 175. He was interested and cultured and curious, constantly intrigued by the past but with an eye on the future and what that meant for the Maison. In this chapter, this translates as Gourmettes which rework the idea of the chain into something solid and elegant, modern. While easy-to-wear tags feel contemporary and feature Maison Monogram symbols, a note about identity, and a new titanium blue. Key to these pieces are laser-cutting; the Monogram motif; and the denim-inspired blue titanium. The Curious Gaston had an open mind and appetite for almost everything: he was a bibliophile, a keen gardener, a lover of objects and art, of typography and monograms, and more besides. He was a photographer and collaborator. And had been born just a few years before the Eiffel Tower had gone up, and was aged 20 when a heavier-than-air plane first took off. He was well-travelled – he has famously said he was nearly born in a trunk, which has notably become a Maison icon. Here, the trunk is reimagined in perhaps its smallest rendition yet: a stud, a bracelet, a necklace, and pendant with exacting engraving in the tiniest of proportions that require the curious eye, notably invited by diamonds.

Key to these pieces are: white gold and diamonds; modern heritage and redefined iconic forms. Les Gastons Vuitton Blue The Les Gastons Vuitton fine jewelry collection introduces Les Gastons Vuitton Blue, a unique and innovative new color, which has been developed through using titanium, which boasts both light and strong properties. The shade has been inspired by blue denim, a universal staple. “This collection is a bit like your pair of jeans,” says Francesca Amfitheatrof. “Everyone owns a pair of jeans and the more you wear your jeans, the more you love them.” The blue features alongside white gold and yellow gold to bring a fresh and modern take on luxury. Through the inimitable lens of Gaston-Louis Vuitton, this collection is a celebration of the design signatures deeply rooted in the Louis Vuitton heritage for a new generation.
