Jonathan Anderson approaches couture as a refined language, learning the grammar of its codes, techniques and craft traditions in order to articulate new ideas.

Just as Christian Dior conceived the sculptural silhouette of his 1947 'New Look' and named his lines with an architect's logic « Zig-Zag, Tulip, A and H » Jonathan Anderson gives form to new ideas, drawing on both the Dior archive and the work of American sculptor Lynda Benglis, whose pieces are often described as 'frozen gestures' that arrest materials in motion.

Interpreted through engineering only possible in couture, Benglis's organic forms come to life in the Dior ateliers: materials manipulated to resemble paper, metal or plaster; surfaces encrusted with embroideries that echo her use of paint and glitter. Each look carries the time and knowledge of its making, proof that the most ambitious ideas still depend on the patience of craft.
