MASU is derived from the Japanese "Masu", which is a verb ending used in polite expressions. Just as this expression is woven naturally into everyday conversation without ever losing its grace, MASU aspires to embody that same timeless sense of respect and sincerity.
Shinpei Goto, born in Japan in 1992, studied tailoring in the Men’s Design Course at Bunka Fashion College. During his studies, he began working at LAILA, a renowned vintage boutique known internationally for its exceptional archive of rare designer pieces. After graduating, he continued at LAILA as design and production manager for the store’s in-house label, overseeing six collections. In 2018, Goto was appointed creative director of MASU, where he has been designing from the Fall/Winter 2018 season onward. Designer Shinpei Goto draws deep inspiration from the philosophies, cultural heritage, and emotional power of vintage clothing that have fascinated him since childhood. Advocating "making clothes that will become someone’s vintage cherished and enduring across time.” He designs his collections with genuine reverence for craftsmanship, history, and the stories embedded within each material.
