Jaeger-LeCoultre unveils bespoke Swiss Chalet

6/30/2025

Picture
Jaeger-LeCoultre unveils Le Chalet, a beautifully restored traditional farm building nestled in the heart of the Vallée de Joux. From its very origin, Jaeger-LeCoultre has been a Manufacture, a visionary concept that united all watchmaking crafts under one roof. This unique structure has been fundamental to the Maison's identity as well as its relentless pursuit of horological excellence, fostering innovation and ensuring the highest standards of quality.

A MICROCOSM OF TRADITION, BEAUTIFULLY RESTORED

Located at an altitude of 1,360 metres on the western side of Mont Tendre, Le Chalet is a restored 19th-century chalet d’alpage. Now owned by the commune of Le Chenit, it was once the property of a farmer from the valley who would move his cattle up to the high meadows (alpages in French) during summer. This magical location, known as ‘Les Chaumilles’ – a diminutive of the local dialect word chaux or small grazing area – overlooks Le Sentier and the Joux lake.

Typical of all such buildings in the Jura, Le Chalet originally comprised a stable, barn and cheese-production area. Embracing its heritage, with much of the original wood carefully cleaned and restored, as well as complemented by additional planks, the main open-plan barn will be used as a space for dining and entertaining, overlooked by a cosy mezzanine lounge area.

CONNECTING WITH THE SOUL OF THE VALLÉE DE JOUX

Time spent at Le Chalet is a one-of-a-kind adventure that blends rustic simplicity with deep sophistication – a treasured opportunity to step away from daily life and connect with the soul of the Vallée de Joux, its culture, history and people. Guests will experience the authentic world of the valley where, in the mid-16th century, Pierre LeCoultre took refuge after fleeing from France and, 10 generations later, his descendant Antoine LeCoultre founded the watchmaking atelier that grew to become the Manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre. Set in the wilderness, yet less than 10 minutes’ drive from the Manufacture in Le Sentier, the surroundings are profoundly peaceful – the silence broken only by the sound of cowbells, the sighing of the breeze in the pine trees and sometimes, by the greetings of deer herds.

The opportunity to experience Le Chalet will be reserved exclusively for visitors invited by the Manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre. By not only supporting Le Chalet’s physical restoration but also creating a new role for it as a place to receive guests who are visiting the Manufacture, La Grande Maison has helped to ensure the preservation of a historic jewel for generations to come.

A 56m Superyacht Collaboration
Featuring Exterior Design by Enrico Gobbi, based In Venice-Italy
Interior Design by Meyer Davis

Where Italian Naval Heritage Meets American Interior Innovation

Baglietto, the Italian shipyard with over 170 years of heritage and excellence, along with Meyer Davis, the multi-disciplinary design studio, announce a new creative partnership. The collaboration will bring to life the interiors of a 56-meter Baglietto superyacht, designed by Meyer Davis, with exteriors by renowned yacht designer Enrico Gobbi owner of Team for Design studio, based in Venice, Italy. In New York, the cultural and creative hub of the United States, the concept for Vesta56 was recently unveiled—marking the official debut of this visionary project.

“Vesta56 is the expression of our philosophy,” says Fabio Ermetto, CCO of Baglietto. “With Enrico Gobbi’s elegant exterior lines and the fresh, sophisticated vision of Meyer Davis, we are creating something extraordinary—an experience that speaks to beauty, innovation, and balance. We’re proud to collaborate with a design firm that shares our passion for timeless yet contemporary style.”

“The 56m Baglietto is characterized by a captivating design, generous spaces, and a sleek and dynamic profile. The project brief requested for large and comfortable exterior and interior areas, without compromising the aesthetics of the yacht. For this reason, dynamic and stretched lines were chosen to reach the perfect balance between generous volumes and an elegant, streamlined profile,” commented Enrico Gobbi.
The yacht's slender proportions were obtained by design details such as ultra-thin aft deck overhangs that recall the wings of a jet, combined with uninterrupted glazing along the yacht’s entire length. These elements reflect aeronautical inspiration and give the silhouette a striking sense of dynamism and tension, in fact, the intent was to create a yacht defined by 'lines in movement', a sense of continuous flow and energy, even when the yacht is at anchor.

Meyer Davis brings soulful sophistication to Vesta56, the concept interior vision for Baglietto’s 56m superyacht. Named for Vesta, the Roman goddess of hearth and home, Vesta56 reimagines life at sea as a deeply personal sanctuary—an enduring space where luxury meets belonging.
Across every deck, Vesta56 interiors resist the futurism common in many yacht designs. “Embracing organic form, personal layers, and lived-in elegance, we designed the yacht to age gracefully, accumulating stories as it travels,” says Will Meyer, Co-Founder of Meyer Davis. Cabinetry, furnishings, and circulation all speak to function made poetic. The result is a vessel that doesn’t just move—it becomes. It welcomes. “With Vesta56, Meyer Davis leaves a lasting mark—not through spectacle, but through sanctuary. A superyacht not just to behold, but to come home to.”

Swiss Elegance Meets Moroccan Charm: interview with Villa Maroc managing director

The owner, Mounia Ezzaher, looks after the two sister properties, Villa Maroc and Les Jardins de Villa Maroc. These properties reflect cross-cultural design, with influences from her Swiss mother and her Moroccan father.

At Villa Maroc, Mounia and her parents have created an atmosphere that merges the clean lines and timeless elements of Swiss design with the vibrant, artisanal spirit of Morocco. The hotel is a true reflection of the artistry of both countries, featuring intricate mosaics, warm textiles, and bold colours. Over the years, they have thoughtfully curated the space by sourcing artwork and furniture from local artisans in Morocco, ensuring that each piece tells a story, adding an authentic touch of craftsmanship and local heritage to the property.

Les Jardins de Villa Maroc features eleven ecodomes inspired by traditional Moroccan architecture. Constructed using local materials such as sand, clay, and limestone, these dome-shaped suites are naturally regulating through seasons and climates. Designed to blend seamlessly with its natural surroundings, the property emphasises sustainability and luxury, promoting biodiversity through its lush gardens filled with native olive groves, argan, and thuya trees.

These properties are not only visually stunning but also rich in history, culture, and thoughtful design. The blending of two distinct cultures is showcased through design elements as well as beautiful artwork dotted around each property.

Picture

Overseeing two sister properties, Villa Maroc and Les Jardins de Villa Maroc, what is the idea behind their design and offer?

Villa Maroc’s philosophy has always been to offer guests an authentic Moroccan experience — one that respects tradition while embracing comfort. Set within four 18th-century riads in the heart of the Essaouira medina, the property blends original architectural details with subtle modern touches. From the design of each room to the menus in our restaurant and the curated wine selection, every element is a reflection of Moroccan heritage.
Les Jardins de Villa Maroc was born from a different vision. Architecturally, it is unlike anything else. Inspired by southern Morocco’s nualas — rounded, earthen dwellings — our domes reinterpret ancestral forms with a contemporary sensibility. They feel at once futuristic and deeply rooted in the landscape. The aim was to offer a more modern perspective on Moroccan hospitality, seamlessly integrated into nature.

What makes the combination of Swiss design and Moroccan artisanal spirit successful, and what type of research did you conduct to achieve this blend?

While there isn’t a literal Swiss design influence in our architecture, the blending of Swiss and Moroccan sensibilities happens more subtly, in our approach to hospitality. I would describe our management philosophy as Swiss in its precision and discipline, and Moroccan in its warmth and spontaneity. That combination is what makes our guest experience so special.
The development of this balance wasn’t born from academic research but rather years of hands-on learning, working closely with both cultures, and refining our approach over time.

How do the properties support and reflect Moroccan artisanship and cultural heritage?

We’ve spent the past 30 years building relationships with local artisans, many of whom have been working with us since the very beginning. Whether it’s the handcrafted tableware from Safi or zellige tiles fired in the traditional ovens of Fes, Moroccan craftsmanship is present in every corner of Villa Maroc.
At Les Jardins de Villa Maroc, the domes themselves are a celebration of ancestral techniques. Built entirely by hand using local earth and the expertise of maalems (master builders), they are a testament to what can be achieved when heritage meets innovation.

What are the benefits of using local materials and artisanal know-how?

Beyond showcasing the extraordinary beauty of Moroccan craftsmanship, working with local materials and artisans preserves knowledge that has been passed down through generations. Take tadelakt, for example — a traditional plastering technique that creates a smooth, water-resistant finish. Its production and application require such specialised skill that it’s nearly impossible to replicate outside Morocco without years of experience.
Using these methods not only ensures authenticity and quality but also sustains the communities that have kept these traditions alive.

How are the properties promoting biodiversity and social sustainability?

Our sustainability philosophy has always been simple and grounded:
  • We buy local.
  • We cook to order to avoid food waste.
  • We employ locally and train on-site.
  • We prioritise renewable energy.
  • We conserve water, for example, by offering showers rather than bathtubs.

These values have guided us for over three decades. More recently, we’ve taken even more tangible steps:

At Les Jardins de Villa Maroc, 70% of our energy is solar-powered. Our swimming pool is heated using grignons d’olive— the repurposed waste from our own olive oil production. These choices are driven by a desire to lead by example, showing that sustainable luxury is not only possible but necessary.
We make small, mindful decisions every day — and we believe they add up to something meaningful.

What aspects of Morocco’s rich history and culture do your properties reflect, and how are they relevant to today’s travellers and the local community?

Both properties reflect different facets of Moroccan identity. At Villa Maroc, the setting and atmosphere transport guests into the heart of Essaouira’s medina life, surrounded by traditional architecture, layered textures, and age-old rituals of Moroccan hospitality.
Les Jardins, on the other hand, speaks to Morocco’s evolving narrative. It embraces the spirit of innovation while respecting tradition, creating something fresh yet deeply local.
For today’s travellers — especially those seeking deeper, more meaningful experiences — this balance between heritage and relevance is essential. And for the local community, it’s a way of seeing their own culture celebrated and sustained in a respectful, forward-thinking way.

Across Asia by Bike - Hamid Ghaffari's Journey

6/13/2025

Follow on: www.instagram.com/hamid_ghafari

Did you ever dream of tracing the ancient routes of explorers like Marco Polo traveling beyond
borders, beyond comfort, and beyond the expected?
That dream became Hamid´s reality in 2024, as he embarks on the transcontinental journey from Iran in the West to Indonesia in the East. He has reached India, Sri Lanka and Pakistan as we conduct our interview, (see images in this article).

he explains, "when I left Iran on a bicycle, carrying just a few essentials
and a heart full of questions. My goal: to ride from West to East crossing 13 countries across Asia,
all the way to Indonesia not just to see the world, but to feel it, to connect with people, and to
document the truth I find along the way."

I'm Hamid Ghaffari (born Hamidreza Ghaffari), an Iranian traveler and storyteller, and this is my
journey not just across continents, but deep into the human experience.

Picture
(This interview was produced in June). What inspired your expedition across Asia, by cycling, and what's the deeper purpose behind it

Hamid Ghaffari: Since childhood, I always had itchy feet and an adventurous spirit. In the spring of 2024, while I was traveling inside Iran, I realized I didn't just want to explore I wanted to get lost in the world. What
started as an idea slowly took shape: why not by bicycle?

I love cycling. It makes me feel free. Just me, my few belongings, and my bike no borders. Cycling
offers a "slow-motion" version of travel. You're fully present, you adapt to the environment, you
connect with locals in a real way.

I began in Pakistan a country the media always told us was "dangerous." But I wanted to see it with
my own eyes. I wanted to show others what I see the real, unfiltered world. My deeper purpose is
to remind people that so many of our fears are mental, and we're capable of overcoming them.

What have been the most meaningful stories and human interactions or cultural discoveries so far?
Hamid Ghaffari: There are too many to count but one lesson hits me every time: You'll never know unless you go.
Every country I've entered came with stories from others: "It's unsafe," "It's dirty," "There's nothing to
see." But they were never true. We've been brainwashed to believe India is only about poverty or
chaos but its culture, food, and history are beyond anything I imagined.

The truth is, I've been welcomed everywhere in Pakistan, India, and beyond with kindness,
warmth, and hospitality. As long as you go with respect, see yourself as a guest, and treat locals as
your hosts, you'll find beauty in every corner of this planet.

Picture
Do you recall your toughest parts of the journey physical, emotional, or political and what helped you to overcome them?

Hamid Ghaffari:
When you travel without a fixed plan, the challenges are endless. As an Iranian, one of my biggest struggles is always visa-related due to sanctions, I have to worry far in advance about every crossing.

But my toughest experience was in Karachi, Pakistan, when I got severe food poisoning five days in.
I was sick for almost three weeks, ended up in the hospital, and needed multiple IV treatments. I truly thought my trip was over.

I slowed down, stayed in Islamabad, and a kind local friend I met there helped take care of me. He showed me the best, safest places to eat. That support plus patience helped me recover and continue.

How do you document your journey across all the countries? How do you share these
stories under such conditions?

Hamid Ghaffari:  My passion for storytelling has always been with me. I started this journey with a Sony camera, a DJI, an iPhone, microphones everything I could carry. I capture moments naturally as they happen. Later, when I have the time, I edit and publish.
Recently, I even hired an editor and a translator to help improve the quality and speed of the
process. Despite the tough travel conditions, I try to produce the most realistic content possible
with English subtitles on YouTube and Instagram so anyone in the world can follow along.
Picture
How do you manage to balance adventure and travel sustainably and lightly while cycling
such long distances?

Hamid Ghaffari: Before this journey, I was a consumer. I didn't realize how consumerism was controlling us and hurting the planet. When I planned this odyssey, I knew I had to change.

I learned we don't need much. Just the essentials. No one cares if you wear the same T-shirt for 6
months. If you accept that truth, you'll travel easier, live lighter, and feel more free. Living simply isn't
just personal it's a way to fight overconsumption and do your part for this world.

You're building a global audience and sharing stories that matter. What do you want your
audience to feel, learn, or do after following this journey?

Hamid Ghaffari: I want them to feel like they're traveling with me. To taste the freedom of a life where your home is just a bike and a few belongings.
I want to show that a healthy, active lifestyle is possible without drugs, without complications.
I want people to chase their wildest dreams, live simply, and never give up no matter how
impossible it might seem.
