MARMOMAC BEST COMMUNICATOR AWARD 2025

9/25/2025

Picture
THE ART OF MAURIZIO CATTELAN AND YURI ANCARANI, (above) THE DESIGN VISION OF HANNES PEER, AND THE CONTEMPORARY INTERPRETATION OF PAOLO STELLA HONORED IN THE NEW SECTION OF THE MARMOMAC BEST COMMUNICATOR AWARD IN COLLABORATION WITH FORBES.

In the Exhibitors section, companies I Conci, DDchem, and Verzu won respectively in the Natural Stone, Technology, and Visions categories. A Special Mention by IUSVE – awarded by the Exhibition Design class of the Salesian University Institute of Venice – went to Furrer. Presenting the awards were Federico Bricolo, President of Veronafiere, and Adolfo Rebughini, General Manager of Veronafiere.

The stage of The Plus Theatre hosted today the award ceremony for the 17th edition of the Marmomac Best Communicator Award, which this year inaugurated a new collaboration with Forbes. The partnership extends the recognition not only to the best exhibitors at the fair but also to leading cultural figures – both Italian and international – who in 2025 have successfully communicated marble and natural stone to a broad and diverse audience through their projects.

Heading the trio of honorees in the new “Forbes Selection” section is Maurizio Cattelan. The eclectic and provocative artist presented, within his exhibition Seasons (on view in Bergamo until 26 October), two works entirely made of Carrara marble. “His works are not only a moment of reflection on the cyclical nature of life and history, on the transformations of the individual and society, but also the result of an extraordinary synergy between artistic intuition and advanced robotic technology, capable of generating strong communicative and symbolic impact,” reads the jury’s statement. The jury included Silvia Nani, design editor of Corriere della Sera, Manuela Mimosa Ravasio of La Repubblica, Alessandro Mauro Rossi, editor-in-chief of Forbes Italia, and Aurelio Chinellato, professor of Exhibition Design at IUSVE.

Cattelan, not present in person, sent instead a recording of his own voice paired with a replica of his head, sculpted for the occasion by Litix, a leader in robotic sculpture and exhibitor at Marmomac: “Since I couldn’t be there in person, I decided to send my head sculpted by a robot. It seemed the most convenient way to be present without risking too long a speech.”

The award for design went to Hannes Peer, the South Tyrolean architect, for his installation Crash – presented with Margraf at the 2025 Salone del Mobile – praised for being “capable of shifting the role of natural stone from purely decorative to a dynamic narrative element, evoking fragility, impact, and transformation.” Described by Il Sole 24 Ore as “the architect who teaches us to un-align our gaze,” Peer collected the award in person, emphasizing his deep connection with marble: “They called me the apostle of marble. With this project I wanted to make stone dynamic. I transformed surfaces, turned them into wallpaper, experimenting with its three-dimensionality.”
For Paolo Stella, lifestyle influencer and creative director of @suonarestella, this was his debut at the event: “For me, marble is the material of choice. Through my projects, I enjoyed using design to respond to some of my obsessions related to home décor. For a natural stone enthusiast, being at a fair like this is like a child in a playground. This is my first time at Marmomac, but certainly not my last.” In 2025, Stella launched the furniture lines COM|PLE|MEN|TARE and POR|TAN|TE. “By employing a wide variety of natural stones, he gave the material a daily yet elegant dimension, interpreting its versatility in an authentically personal way.”

A special anniversary mention was awarded to Yuri Ancarani, the only honoree recognized for a work created 15 years ago but still resonating globally in the art world. Presented at the 67th Venice International Film Festival, his short film Il Capo – shot entirely in the Gemeg quarries – “powerfully and poetically captured the essence of quarry work, highlighting the human, material, and identity dimension of marble and those who extract it.” For the 2025 edition, Marmomac dedicated a daily screening of Il Capo at The Plus Theatre. “I am convinced that art remains the most advanced language of communication. That makes me even prouder of this recognition, which – together with the daily projection of my short film – has truly celebrated the meaning of the work we all carry forward,” commented Ancarani.

In the Exhibitors section, selecting the winners was no easy task. The jury examined more than 80 exhibitors, shortlisted to 15 finalists across the Vision, Technology, and Natural Stone categories. Among them, Verzu, DDChem, and I Conci stood out for narrative coherence, audience engagement, and visual storytelling quality, earning the award in their respective categories.

Finally, the IUSVE Special Mention was awarded to Furrer for “the ability to combine – with elegance and innovation – physical, tactile, interactive, and visual completeness within its display, creating a multisensory experience that narrated both product and brand identity.”

The art of precision: Inside the world of N25 Caviar

9/24/2025

Picture
Image - Hermes Gehnen. All images courtesy of N25 Caviar.

The founder and managing director Hermes Gehnen frequently visited Michelin star restaurants around the world during his studies in university. When he discovered that the best caviar is farmed in China, coupled with his passion for fine food, Hermes went on the search for the best sturgeon farms.

Experimenting with the maturation process with a refrigerator in his dorm room, Hermes developed and
refined his unique method for ageing caviar that enhances and highlights the elegant natural flavours of
caviar. Over the years, the style has been refined and made even more elegant and pure.

From then on, the brand gained global recognition from countless acclaimed chefs and industry figures: N25
Caviar became a symbol of excellence in the haute cuisine world. Today, the brand operates from its
headquarters and laboratories in Germany and its caviar is served at over 200 Michelin-star restaurants across
the globe.

More Than Caviar: The Community Behind N25

At first glance, N25 is known for producing some of the world’s most exceptional caviar. But for the chefs who work with the brand, N25 represents something more, a global community built on shared values, long-term collaboration, and a deep respect for craft. Whether in London, Munich, or Singapore, N25 has created a network where chefs feel supported, inspired, and genuinely connected.

Bringing Chefs Together: The 4 Hands Dinners

A signature part of this vision is the brand’s four-hands dinners. Curated culinary collaborations that bring together N25 chef ambassadors with peers from around the world. These events are not just showcases of talent, but also acts of exchange, friendship, and discovery.

Recent examples include:
● Dorian x Ynyshir, a bold, flavour-forward meeting of minds in London
● Ikoyi x JAN, blending the precision of Jan Hartwig with the innovation of Jeremy
Chan

● Tisane x Cycene, a dialogue between two emerging voices in contemporary dining

Each of these dinners becomes a moment of cultural crossover, powered by shared creativity and the subtle salinity of N25 caviar.

Quote from Max Coen, Dorian
‘’N25 is a supporter of sourcing the best and most unique base ingredient, then applying the
same thinking to this to achieve a unique result that no others can match. This is very similar
to the way we work at Dorian. For us every tin is complex, perfect and full of flavour. A trait I
would use describe to the food at Dorian
.’’

Beyond the kitchen, N25 nurtures its network through informal gatherings that allow chefs to simply connect, unwind, and celebrate each other. In January 2024, the brand hosted a Chef Social at BiBi in London, gathering longstanding clients and friends around a tasting menu that honoured the start of a new season. A year later, Tuna Fight Club provided the setting for another memorable event, with caviar, sake,
and good energy flowing in equal measure.

Quote from Chet Sharma, BiBi

‘’What sets N25 apart is Hermes’s meticulous caviar maturation. Eggs are shipped to
Germany, cured, then aged at sub-zero temperatures with species-specific precision,
sometimes for months. Select clients can have caviar aged to their specifications. At my first
tasting with Hermes, I discovered flavours in caviar I hadn’t known existed.
Working with N25 means joining a community built on passion, precision, and respect for
quality. The partnership is personal, with options to age caviar to clients’ specifications,
reflecting trust and collaboration.N25’s story, from sourcing specific farms to a patient ageing
process, aligns with values of authenticity and sustainability. Being part of the N25
community means embracing excellence, innovation, and a shared vision to elevate fine
dining through caviar.

These are not typical industry events, they are ‘’family-style’’ moments. A way to say thank
you, stay connected, and remind everyone that behind every tin of caviar is a group of
people who care deeply about what they’re building.

A Community, Not a Client List
For N25, excellence in caviar is only the beginning. What defines the brand is its commitment to building something lasting with the chefs it works with. The collaborations are genuine, the events are personal, and the goal is clear to create a community where quality, trust, and vision are shared.

Sustainability takes a new tack at the monaco yacht show, with Royal Huisman

9/17/2025

Picture
THIS BREAKTHROUGH CONCEPT IS THE RESULT OF A MULTI-YEAR R&D INVESTMENT BY ROYAL HUISMAN, RONDAL, COR D. ROVER DESIGN AND ARTEMIS TECHNOLOGIES .

Sustainability takes a new tack - Meet AERA

A wing sail and fuel cell energy answer today’s clean cruising demands, wrapped in a dynamic package fit for tomorrow. The shipyard celebrated for building the first hybrid superyacht leaps ahead with a concept utilizing an entire toolbox of cutting-edge technologies to boost efficiency and cut emissions. In 2009, Royal Huisman delivered Ethereal, the world’s first hybrid superyacht requiring a fraction of the energy of comparable yachts. Today, the shipyard unveils a 50m / 164ft concept yacht at the confluence of trailblazing technology, stunning design, and sailing excitement. AERA looks at the sustainability question in a new way, blending the latest technology to redefine cruising in comfort for yachts under 500GT.

AERA, the groundbreaking hybrid catamaran that redefines sustainability offering her owner a near zero-emission option by combining wind power with electricity from a battery storage system charged by hydro generators or a hydrogen fuel cell. For longer voyages batteries can be charged by gensets running on HVO.

he thought behind the concept, as Royal Huisman CEO Jan Timmerman puts it, is to make sailing more accessible. "We know from research that sailing yachts don’t set the sails in full that much of the time, especially when they are going short distances between harbors. For some sailing superyachts, running lines, hoisting, and adjusting all sails can take half an hour or more. Additionally, the yacht requires a skilled sailing crew plus an interior team to secure furniture and other objects. For a short cruise to the next bay, we understand that it may not seem worthwhile.”

“The exterior DNA of the concept is heavily inspired by traditional as well as modern lattice bridges.” —
Cor D. Rover, the designer of AERA

Picture
Picture
AERA’S DYNAMIC PACKAGE IS FIT FOR TOMORROW: (1) Rondal wing sail - (2) retractable propulsion system (RPS) - (3) Rondal captive mooring winches - (4) energy storage system (ESS): compressed hydrogen + fuel cell + batteries - (5) Rondal hydro generators - (6) variable speed generators - (7) HVO biodiesel fuel tanks – not presented here: laser exterior lighting

The culmination of a multi-year R&D program, Concept AERA propels hyper-efficient wing sails beyond America’s Cup and Sail GP into the world of superyachting. Paired with remarkable computer control technology, this next-generation Wing Sail makes AERA as easy to get underway and operate as a motoryacht.

Her radical-looking Wing Sail is more powerful and at the same time it will be less complicated, quieter, and easier to operate than traditional sails. The wing developed by Artemis Technologies is unstayed, as are the Dynarigs on Maltese Falcon and Black Pearl, and the three furling masts on Sailing Yacht A. Unlike those yachts, however, AERA’s 245m2 / 2,640sqft Wing Sail by Rondal will be capable of rotating 360 degrees for excellent sailing performance and to depower completely while staying upright.

It has no additional sails to deploy or flap, and it requires no sheets, blocks, furlers, or winches on deck, nor captive reels taking up space below. Two electric motors housed around the mast column inside the yacht rotate the wing mast. Hydraulic cylinders control the adjustable flaps along its trailing edge to generate lift and forward momentum, or feather it completely in a neutral position by aligning with the breeze...
THE MEANDERING STRUCTURAL FRAMEWORK UNITING AERA’S DECKS BRINGS A SENSE OF LIGHTNESS
TO KEEP VOLUME BELOW 500GT THE LATTICE STRUCTURE OPENINGS ARE NOT FILLED WITH GLASS: THE COVERED PASSAGEWAYS PROVIDE A SECURE, RESIDENTIAL FEEL AND REDUCE INTERIOR HEAT LOADING

AERA builds on the shipyard's 2024 launch of Project Tidal Shift, an environmental awareness initiative focused on ecological preservation through environmental, social, and governance practices. Seeking partners with similar goals, Royal Huisman and sister company Rondal found kindred spirits in designer Cor D. Rover and Artemis Technologies.

The result of their collaboration is a totally new kind of superyacht. Is it a super-efficient sailing yacht with automated systems that make sailing easier, or a motoryacht that gets a big boost from wind to limit emissions to near zero? AERA is a yacht where one does not have to choose between sail or power; you can enjoy the flexibility and excitement of both.

DECARBONIZING YACHTING

“We are about decarbonizing the maritime sector,” said Dr. Iain Percy, CEO and founder of Artemis Technologies — a spin off from Artemis Racing. “While part of Artemis Technologies is still involved in high-performance sailing through their consulting division, Artemis Applied Technologies, much of its work is in developing electric foiling technology for commercial vessels, an area that’s rapidly gaining traction." “A few years ago, Royal Huisman and Rondal’s Innovation Department contacted us about the possibility of using wing sails on sailing superyachts to reduce their emissions.” Iain Percy said he at first thought that since the superyachts had sails, their carbon footprint should be, “no problem.” Then he learned that, except when they might be competing in a regatta or unless guests request it, they don’t sail as much as they could. Iain continues: “So our shared passion here was to take away the barriers to using the force of the wind to decarbonize.”
